Give Up

Short, calendar-driven abstinence (like giving up something for Lent) often backfires. Restriction can increase preoccupation and raise the risk of bingeing. Lasting change needs a plan: gradual goals, environmental supports, relapse planning, and evidence-based help.

Abstain

Abstinence until a committed relationship is a valid choice and the only way to eliminate STI and pregnancy risk; if you are sexually active, get tested, use condoms, and communicate with partners.
