Umbilical Cord Blood Gas
Umbilical cord blood gases (arterial and venous) give an objective snapshot of fetal oxygenation and acid-base status at birth. Clinicians use pH, PCO2, HCO3- and base-excess to distinguish respiratory from metabolic acidosis and to guide newborn care after nonreassuring deliveries or depressed newborns.
